Ship Systems Changes
Effective Fall 2025, the Ship Systems sequence (previously Ship Systems I, II, III, and IV) has been updated. The courses have been rearranged, renamed, and renumbered, and one of them has been replaced. Please select the description below that best describes you to see what you should do to complete your Ship Systems sequence.

I am currently taking ENGR 540 Intro to Ship Systems.
You should follow your Degree Curriculum and take the following courses:
- ENGR 545 Motor Plants (fall only)
- ENGR 546 Shipboard Electrical Systems (spring only)
- ENGR 547 Boilers and Auxiliaries (fall only)
- ENGR 548 Steam and Gas Turbines (spring only)
I am currently taking ENGR 546 Shipboard Electrical Systems.
You should take the following courses:
- ENGR 547 Boilers and Auxiliaries (fall only)
- ENGR 548 Steam and Gas Turbines (spring only)
I am currently taking ENGR 548 Steam and Gas Turbines.
You are likely finished with the Ship Systems sequence! Check DegreeWorks to be sure that everything is showing up correctly. If not, see below for how to fix it.
I passed a Ship Systems course, but it's listed under Fall Through on DegreeWorks.
You do not need to take extra or redundant license courses! We're working out some of the bugs of this changeover in DegreeWorks. If something looks wrong, you should email registrar@sunymaritime.edu, tell them what classes are listed incorrectly, and ask them to fix it.
I failed a Ship Systems course and need to retake it.
The table below shows the equivalencies between the old and new courses. If you failed a class listed on the left, you should take the class listed to its right to replace it.
